Getting to know Ashley Ferrara

Hi Ashley I would like to welcome you to Knuckle saMMAch to start off could you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Ashley Ferrara and and I am a swimsuit and promotional model, MMA / boxing ring card girl and law student at the University of Oklahoma. I love being a swimsuit model and MMA / boxing ring card girl because of the rush I get from being on stage or in the cage!

 Where did you get your start in modeling?

Last August I started law school and never thought that I would be a model. I was looking for something fun to do and make some extra money while in school so I applied for a job at Hooters. I got the job and found myself really loving the modeling aspect of it. I began to look for other opportunities and made it onto the Sun Bru Bikini Team in Dallas. From there, the rest is history!

What is the biggest pressure of your job?

By far the biggest pressure is the unpredictability! On many occasions, jobs will come up at the last minute and I am always scrambling to change my schedule and travel to different cities at the drop of a hat!

Were you a fan of MMA before you got your start as a ring girl? 

Before I started working at Hooters, I wasn’t very familiar with MMA. Fight nights were by far the busiest nights and I began to pay attention to MMA because the energy from the fans was contagious. Since I have started working as a ring girl, I have learned the most and now read as many updates as I can!

 What is your main goal of being a ring girl?

My main goal is to become a travelling ring girl for one of the national MMA circuits and gain a prominent sponsor. It would be the experience of a lifetime to ring card at one of the Las Vegas Hotels or even somewhere outside the US!

Being a model and ring girl you must see a lot of stereotypes what would you say is your least favorite stereotype you have come across?

The worst stereotype is that pretty girls can’t be smart! When people meet me, a lot of times they are reluctant to believe that I went to an Ivy League school for undergrad and am currently in law school! There’s no reason that I shouldn’t keep myself looking good while in law school!

Speaking of stereotypes with Zuffa's purchase of Strikeforce which is the biggest organization to feature Women's MMA it has brought up a lot of questions to what the future holds for Women in MMA.  First off are you a supporter of Women in MMA? And do you think we will ever see a Women's division in the UFC?

                

I definitely support women in MMA. I don’t think that I could ever personally get in the cage and fight someone else, but I have a lot of respect for the women who do. I’ve enjoyed the women’s matchups I’ve seen and I like them as a component of the fight night. Having it be a part of UFC would definitely encourage more women to become fighters!

Being from the South and Oklahoma how big of a football fan are you?

                

Before living in Oklahoma, I lived in Texas where football, whether it is high school, college or pro rules the fall. Since going to law school at OU, I have become a huge OU football fan! This season, I have gone to all the home games and 2 of the away games. You better believe that I’ll be going to whichever bowl game we are selected for!

Could you describe how intense Oklahoma's rivalries are? Any funny/crazy stories of wild fans?

                

By far, the University of Texas is our most hated rival. The game takes place during the State Fair of Texas at the Cotton Bowl and half the stadium is crimson while the other half is burnt orange. The game is for bragging rights for the year! OU has this year’s bragging rights!

Our second biggest rivalry is Oklahoma State University. Every time OU and OSU face each other, it is referred to as “Bedlam”! The craziest fans are the ones who are in “families divided” – meaning that some members of the family went to OU and some to OSU. Families have been known not talk to each other leading up to the game and then in the couple days after the game!

What about the NFL? Who's your favorite team? And your prediction for the Super Bowl?

I love the Houston Texans! This is definitely our year – maybe you’ll see us in the Super Bowl. We’ve never technically made the playoffs but why not win the Super Bowl the first year you make the playoffs! But if it isn’t the Texans coming from the AFC, it may be the Patriots. I am positive that Green Bay will be the NFC team!

Could we get a prediction for the Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos Heavyweight title fight taking place on Fox?

Velasquez.  It should be a great on a huge stage!  It will take a lot to remain the Champion, but I am sure that he is up for it.

Aside from Knuckle saMMAch what would you say your favorite sandwich is?

                

Anything with a lot of meat J
