UFC Live 5: Recapping The Main Card

Chris Lytle defeated Dan Hardy by Submission 4:16 3rd Round
My Prediction: Hardy by Decision
My Rating: $$$$
What Happened: In what Hardy needed to be a kickboxing bout, turned into a boxing match that ended in a submission.  In what ultimately was Lytle's last fight after announcing it during the weigh in's Lytle was able to pick apart Hardy with some great combos while avoiding Hardy's power shots and narrowly missing on his own ko punches as well.  Most likely down 2 rounds to none Hardy starting to push the pace late in the 3rd but it was perhaps an ill advised takedown leaving his neck open for Lytle that ended the fight with a guillotine choke.


Future matchups to make: Hard to imagine many fighters still keeping their job after losing 3 in a row never mind 4.  But that seems to be the case for Hardy, If they are going to keep him around they may as well put him in an entertaining bout with Amir Sadollah.

Ben Henderson defeated Jim Miller by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-29, 30-26)
My Prediction: Miller by Decision

My Rating: $$$

What Happened: In typical Henderson fashion he gets him self put in submissions but was able to escape them all and grind out the decision win.  Henderson for the most part was able to stay on top of Miller while delivering good ground and pound blooding up Miller throughout the fight.  Just an impressive performance by Henderson who was the underdog going into this one, now proves he really is one of the top Lightweights in the world.

Future matchups to make: For Henderson a matchup with Clay Guida would not only determine who has the best hair in the Lightweight division by also who gets the next title shot.  For Miller he takes a step back but still should get a a fight against a top Lightweight, like the man who just fought before him Donald Cerrone.

Donald Cerrone defeated Charles Oliveira by TKO 3:01 1st Round

My Prediction: Oliveira by Decision
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: The 2 fighters traded strikes to start but it was the technical and powerful Cerrone who had the advantage as he landed a stiff right to Oliveira's face which evetually had Oliveira hitting the mat and looking for a leg, Cerrone on top though goes for the finish in Oliveira's guard unloading shots to the head that forces the ref to step in and call the fight.


Future matchups to make: A matchup with Jim Miller, or as he has previously mentioned his desire to face Cole Miller would both be great matchups for Cowboy.

Duane Ludwig defeated Amir Sadollah by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
My Prediction: Sadollah by Decision

My Rating: $$1/2

What Happened: Sadollah was outclassed in a kickboxing bout against the more experienced Ludwig.  To Sadollah's credit he did come back and win the final round and dropping the first 2.  But it was the 1st round that set the pace for the whole fight as Sadollah was getting lite up by Ludwig after they broke away from a Muay Thai clinch.  By the time the 3rd came around both fighters were exhausted with Sadollah perhaps the fresher of the 2 to win the round but ultimately not the fight.

Future matchups to make: Ludwig gets the huge win and his second straight in his return to the Welterweight division.  A fight with Brian Ebersole also on a 2 fight win streak could be perfect for all involved.
