5 Finger Knuckle SaMMAch: 5 August Fights That Are On The Radar

1. Anderson Silva vs Yushin Okami at UFC 134 August 27th
No fight can be bigger than one that features the pound for pound best fighter in the world Anderson Silva.  Silva has now won 14 fights in a row his last loss was to none other that his next opponent Yushin Okami.  Although the "loss" was because of a disqualification to an illegal strike to a downed Okami,  Silva will definitely looking to right history when he gets another crack at Japanese star.  Okami has won 3 fights in a row while finally earning his title shot and will as well looking to get another fair chance at the UFC champion. This Middleweight title fight is a great main event for UFC's return to Brazil, will Silva's striking be too much or will Okami's grueling, grinding takedowns overwhelm Silva.

2. Rashad Evans vs Tito Ortiz at UFC 133 August 6th
A surprising late notice matchup sets up a rematch from their UFC 73 bout that ended in a draw.  Due to injuries to first Jon Jones and then Phil Davis Tito finds him self in the main event after his huge upset win over Ryan Bader.  Evans is looking to hold his place in line for the Light Heavyweight title after injuries took him out of a title fight against then champion Mauricio Rua.  Evans has been out of action since his May 2010 win over rival Rampage Jackson.  Alot has changed for both fighters since their first encounter, Evans is a much more dynamic striker while Ortiz is riding high of his first win in 6 years and is apparently injury free.

3. Mauricio Rua vs Forrest Griffin at UFC 134 August 27th
A rematch from their UFC 76 bout serves as the co-main event for the UFC 134 event.  The first bout (which was also Shogun's debut) was won by Griffin with a rear naked choke late in the 3rd round.  This fight is argueably more important than the first as Griffin wants to prove that the first fight wasn't a fluke and Shogun wants to prove he still is a championship caliber fighter after losing the title to Jon Jones.  Style wise this fight could be very similar to the first, and depending on how the Evans/Ortiz fight plays out the winner of this matchup could find them self earning a title shot.

4. Jim Miller vs Ben Henderson at UFC Live 5 on August 14th
With respect to the main event on the card this is the fight that everyone should be paying attention to when talking about future title implications.  Jim Miller has now won 7 fights in a row and surely will be considered the #1 Lightweight contender and will face the winner of the Edgar/Maynard bout.  Henderson on the other hand is looking to build a winning streak of his own as he won his UFC debut against Mark Bocek after losing his WEC title to Anthony Pettis.

5. Vitor Belfort vs Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 on August 6th
When you have 2 fighters coming off losses you can expect them to come out looking for something to prove, when those 2 fighters are Vitor Belfort and Yoshihiro Akiyama you can expect absolutely everything left in the octagon.  Personally this fight is the one I'm looking forward to most this month as not only is it Fight Of The Night potential, it really has Fight Of The Year written all over it.  I consider both 2 of my favorite fighters though and don't always like to see my favorites get hurt but just can't help to get excited about this one.  The winner of this bout should see him self back in the mix against the games toughest opponents and towards a shot at the Middleweight title.
