The Season 13 finale of The Ultimate Fighter Team Dos Santos vs Team Lesnar is set to take place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlined by show finalists Tony Ferguson and Ramsey Nijem most of my attention however is on the lightweight battle between Anthony Pettis and Clay Guida. Also appearing from the show are Chris Cope, Chuck O'Neil, Shamar Bailey, Ryan McGillivray, Clay Harvison and Justin Edwards. I have an abbreviated preview as I wasn't sure if I wanted to preview prelim bouts that I may not even get to watch, then the UFC announced all prelims will be aired on Facebook but by that time I super late even posting this preview so abbreviated it shall remain.
Main Event
The Ultimate Fighter Final
Tony Ferguson vs Ramsey Nijem
Tony Ferguson vs Ramsey Nijem
Nijem got him self to the final by beating Charlie Rader and Clay Harvison by submission and Chris Cope by TKO. Overall Ramsey is 4-1 and has won 3 in a row. Ferguson made it here by beating Justin Edwards, Ryan McGillivray and Chuck O'Neil all by TKO. Ferguson is 10-2 overall and has won 3 in row as well. We can say what we want about the quality of this season but at the very least we get the right final fight. According to odds makers Nijem is the slight favorite and he probably will look to use his superior wrestling to get Ferguson down and possibly look for a submission. Ferguson perhaps the more technical striker of the 2 will try and keep the fight standing and away from getting into a brawl with Nijem.
Anthony Pettis vs Clay Guida
Pettis the last WEC Lightweight Champion will finally be making his UFC debut and has won 4 in a row. The always game Guida is coming into this bout being a winner in 3 straight most recently a submission win over Takanori Gomi. Guida is making his 3rd TUF Finale main event appearance and if the last 2 have told us anything we are in for a great match. Guida will probably want to set a fast pace for this fight and try and get Pettis down to avoid his creative stand up. Pettis, making his first appearance since "the kick" against Ben Henderson will want to keep Guida at bay and use he wide array of striking offense he has at his disposal.
My Prediction Pettis by Decision- Pettis still has his possible title shot waiting for him and I don't see him letting it slip away with a lose here. Guida to his credit is a tough guy to finish but Pettis will do enough stuffing Guida's takedowns thus keeping the fight in his strengths.
Tim Credeur vs Ed Herman
Tim Credeur vs Ed Herman
Ed Herman returns after losing his last fight due to injury, including that bout he is only 1-3 in his last 4. Credeur returns after nearly 2 years out of action, his last bout was the highly entertaining decision lose to Nate Quarry. It what could ultimately be a fight for both their jobs this bout could stay on the feet as both fighters strong points are on the ground, Herman with his wrestling, Credeur with his jiujitsu.
My Prediction Herman Decision- I did say this fight could stay standing but as his fight with Quarry Credeur could turn it into a brawl and Herman would probably like to avoid that and try and ground out Credeur on the ground.
Fabio Maldonado vs Kyle Kingsbury
Kingsbury, the former TUF cast member of season 8 enters this fight on a 3 fight win streak and sits at 10-2 overall. Maldonado enters this fight coming off winning his UFC debut and 11 staight, he has a career 18-3 record. No secrets here that Kingsbury will want to avoid Maldonado's stand up and get this to the ground. Maldonado will want to avoid those takedowns and being worn out by the larger Kingsbury.
My Prediction Maldonado TKO 2nd Round- Maldonado's superior standup should be too much for Kingsbury
Chris Cope vs Chuck O'Neil
During the show O'Neil was actually an alternate only joining the cast after an injury. He lost his first fight but was granted entry into the wildcard bout against Javier Torres who he defeated. He then was victorious over Zach Davis but eventually lost to Tony Ferguson, officially Chuck has won 3 fights in a row and is 8-3 overall. Cope. Thought to be an underdog Cope won his first fight on the show against Javier Torres and Team Dos Santos first pick Shamar Bailey before falling to Ramsey Nijem in the semi-finals.
My Prediction O'Neil Decision- I think O'Neil is hungrier and will be too much for Cope to handle.
My Prediction O'Neil Decision- I think O'Neil is hungrier and will be too much for Cope to handle.
