Jon Jones defeated Lyoto Machida by Submission 4:26 2nd Round
My Prediction: Jones by TKO 4th Round
My Rating: $$$1/2
What Happened: Although 2 of the 3 judges scored the first round for Jones Machida seemingly gave Jones his first test of adversity. An expert on having pin point range and Machida proved it yet again and he kept the champ off balance with spurts of in an out attacks that seemingly had Jones second guessing his own attack. In the 2nd though it was Jones going on the offensive even with his large reach he was forced to close the distance on Machida and it paid off by catching a kick and scoring a takedown. A big elbow by Jones immediately opened up a cut on Machida, Machida was able to get the fight to the feet but only to have the referee request the doctor to have a look at the cut. They restarted in the clinch and Jones went right back to work with a left and into a standing guillotine attempt. Jones really displayed his power with the submission as he pushed up on Machida and quite literally lifted him up off the ground then shortly after Machida lost consciousness which forced the fight to be stopped.
Frank Mir defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogeuira by Submission 3:38 1st Round
My Prediction: Nogueira by Decision
My Rating: $$$$1/2
What Happened: Frank Mir threw his hat into the discussion of submission of the year is what happened. Nogueira seemed to be in good form early as he was getting the better of Mir in the clinch up against the cage with elbows, he eventually hit a right hand that wobbled Mir and sent him to the mat. Nogueira follows him to the mat with some punches but then goes for a guillotine. Mir manage to reverse the position and ended up on top and looking for a kimura, Nogueira in turn sweeps and he's on top..for about a half a second that is as Mir reveres the position yet again with the lock still in place. Mir is not letting go and Nogueira is not tapping which leads to Nogueira's arm breaking or at least suffering some serious damage which finally forces Nogueira to tap.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeated Tito Ortiz by TKO 3:15 1st Round
My Prediction: Nogueira by TKO 2nd Round
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: Both fighters looked to engage right away as they both were throwing some heavy shots but it was Nogueira who landed the most significant strike which was a left cross that was followed up with a knee to the body that sent Ortiz to the mat. Nogueira rushed Ortiz on the mat unloading blow after blow onto Ortiz, even recovering guard was not enough for Ortiz as Nogueira continued the attack with elbows to the body along with shots to the head, Ortiz was given every chance to escape but was unable to which forced the referee to call a stop to the fight and rescue the noticeably injured Ortiz.
Brian Ebersole defeated Claude Patrick by Split Decision (29-28,29-28, 28-29)
My Prediction: Patrick by Decision
My Rating: $1/2
What Happened: This fight was stalled pretty much for the get go as both fighters pretty much cancelled each other out with neither fighter able to gain much advantage. Patrick did threaten with a guillotine choke in the first round but Ebersole was able to escape and land some punches before the round ended. The 2nd and 3rd rounds saw mostly clinch work and Ebersole looking for takedowns as he eventually got one in the 3rd and briefly got Patrick's back, but like Ebersole in the first Patrick was able to escape the position and get the fight back to it's feet.
Chan Sung Jung defeated Mark Hominick by TKO :07 1st Round
My Prediction: Hominick by Decision
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: Hominick came in aggressive with a left hook that the Korean Zombie counters with a right that sends Hominick to the mat. A few follow up strikes stops the fight which tied the record for the fastest stoppage in UFC history.
