UFC Live 6: Recapping The Prelims

Yves Edwards defeated Rafaello Oliveira by TKO 2:44 2nd Round
My Prediction: Edwards by Decision
My Rating: $$
What Happened: Oliveira's game plan may have been to get Edwards to the ground at some point during the fight but he wasn\t hesitant to trade a few strikes as well.  Edwards was able to keep this one standing when Oliveira did attempt takedowns or pulling guard.  But playing with Edwards Muay Thai ultimately was the down fall for Oliveira who was wobbled with some punches before Edwards nailed him with left head kick that sends him to the mat.  Oliveira is given every opportunity on the ground to defend him self as Edwards swarms on him and unloads some ground and pound but the ref finally had seen enough and called the end of the fight.

Future matchups to make: Another Oliveira, Charles would be an excellent matchup for Edwards who gets him self back into the win column.

Paul Sass defeated Michael Johnson by Submission 3:00 1st Round

My Prediction: Johnson by TKO 2nd Round
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: At first it seemed Johnson would be able to keep this fight standing and out of danger of Sass's submissions.  Johnson was able to stuff Sass's takedowns and had the noticeable advantage on the feet.  But the presistent Sass finally closed the distance grabbing a knee and got the fight to the ground.  From there Sass worked off his back working on Johnson's ankle as Johnson tried to gain position but Sass rolled to his stomach while torquing the ankle lock for the tap out win.

Future matchups to make: Sass who now has won 11 of his 12 fights by submission could face another grappler in TJ Grant.

Mike Easton defeated Byron Bloodworth by TKO 4:52 2nd Round
My Prediction: Easton by TKO 1st Round
My Rating: $$
What Happened: Easton used alot of foot work and kicks early in the fight as he stalked Bloodworth throughout the fight.  As the 2nd started Easton found success with a left hook right leg kick combo and the damage started to mount on Bloodworth.  With his back against the cage but in the clinch Easton was able to land high knees on Bloodworth which opened up the body which Easton landed 2 nice knees that dropped Bloodworth to the mat, Easton followed up with a few strikes to finish off Bloodworth.

Future matchups to make: Impressive debut for the hometown Easton, matched up with Walel Watson could make a very explosive fight.

TJ Grant defeated Shane Roller by Submission 2:12 3rd Round

My Prediction: Grant by Decision
My Rating: $$$1/2
What Happened: Grappling was on full display between these 2 Lightweights as Grant was able to get the submission win.  It did have conterversy as when Grant transitioned from a guillitone choke to a tight arm bar which Roller didn't tapped to but the ref stepped in and stopped it.  It may have ended anyway if given a few seconds more but its still an unfortunate end to such a thrilling bout.  Both fighters traded dominate positions and submission attempts and we even saw a few wild moments in the stand up department.

Future matchups to make: This was such a great fight a rematch should really be in order down the road even if there was no doubt about the conterverial submission.  For now a matchup with Paul Sass would be another excellent ground battle.

Josh Neer defeated Keith Wisniewski by TKO 2nd Round
My Prediction: Neer by TKO 1st Round
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: In an entertaining standup battle it was Josh Neer who got the edge by throwing countless standing elbows in the clinch.  While Neer did bloody up Wisniewski with the elbows Wisniewski was able to get some of him own offense with some body shots in the 1st that seemingly really hurt Neer and some knees in the clinch.  But Neer's boxing and mentioned elbows were too much and the fight was stopped after the 2nd round.

Future matchups to make: Excellent return to the UFC for Neer, a step up in competition for him against a Paulo Thiago could be in order.

Walel Watson defeated Joseph Sandoval by TKO 1:17 1st Round

My Prediction: Watson by Submission 2nd Round
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: Watson had the reach advantage and used it to his full advantage from the opening bell.  Using mainly kicks he was able to keep Sandoval on the outside.  Watson eventually landed a very nice right head kick that sent Sandoval down, he was able to get back to his fight but Watson pushed forward and sent Sandoval to the mat again but this time the ref steps in.

Future matchups to make: Very impressive debut by Watson, a bout with fellow UFC Live winner Mike Easton could make sense for both fighters.
