Bellator 44 Recap

Bellator 44 is freshly completed and the results gave us a Lightweight Tournament Champion, a continuation of an impressive winning streak and an entrant in next seasons Middleweight Tournament.  What we didn't  see is the final bantamweight tournament participant for next season decided as Anthony Morrisons strangely came in 10 pounds over weight in his bout against Brian Goldsby.  The fights that did take place were pretty entertaining as has pretty much been the norm in this great season of Bellator.

Michael Chandler defeated Patricky Freire by Unanimous Decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27)
My Prediction Freire TKO 2nd Round
In the first round the Bellator broadcast team and pretty much everyone watching was questioning Chandler's game plan to stand with Freire but he was able to take the first round being the more aggressive fighter.  In the 2nd Freire seem to get on track and started to pick apart Chandler in the stand up but a late takedown and ground and pound allowed Chandler to take that round as well.  In the 3rd Chandler landed a low blow which was the 3rd in the fight and the ref took a point setting up a potential draw if Freire was able to win the round.  It was looking that Freire was going to win the round as he continued to control the stand up picking apart Chandler but the former University of Missouri wrestling stand out was able to secure another takedown and followed that up with some impressive ground and pound to secure the fight and tournament win. $$$

Future match ups to make:
Chandler- Chandler by winning the Lightweight tournament sets him self up for a title shot against Eddie Alvarez later this year.

Hector Lombard defeated Falaniko Vitale by TKO :54 3rd Round
My Prediction Lombard TKO 2nd Round
First two rounds had fans restless as the boo birds were out in force with not a lot of action.  Lombard proved that his now 23 fight streak is not a fluke by Ko'ing Niko with a powerful right hand that floored him, Niko momentarily gets to his feet but falls back down. $$

Future match ups to make:
Lombard- Next seasons middleweight tournament winner will be next in line for Lombard, to maintain his top 10 status I'd like to see Hector up against some bigger opponents in the future.

Alexander Shlemenko defeated Brett Cooper by Decision (30-27, 30-28, 29-28)
My Prediction Shelmenko TKO 2nd Round
In what seemed in the early going as a striking clinic by Shlemenko, Cooper was able to claw back into the fight and made it close.  Shlemenko attempting perhaps a record amount of spinning back fists in a fight also had numerous spinning kick attempts.  Cooper at times was able to turn this fight into a brawl and did find some success, he also was able to slow things down up against the cage but was unable to create much offense. $$$

Future match ups to make:
Shlemenko- With this win Shlemenko qualified him self for next seasons middleweight tournament and another shot at champion Hector Lombard.
