UFC 129 Recap

Amazing. Outstanding. Spectacular. Emotional. Unforgettable. What else can be used to describe the UFC's first event held on Ontario, Canada. 55,000 people witnessed this historic night that very well could be UFC's defining moment. However everything was all roses for some fans as irony rears it's ugly head in the main event where a card filled with great knockouts GSP came up short yet again in his attempt to finish a fight. There was 129,000 reasons there was so many great finishes as that was the bonus dollars handed out for KO, Sub and Fight of the night which were awarded to Machida for KO, Garza for Sub and the co-main event participants Jose Aldo and Mark Hominick won fight of the night. Speaking of Machida going into his fight I was pretty sure John Makdessi had KO of the night and Anderson Silva had the KO of the year but both where striped of their titles with Machida's incredible front kick KO of Randy Couture.

Georges St. Pierre defeated Jake Shields by Unanimous Decision (50-45,48-47,48-47) My Prediction St. Pierre by Decision
Well it wasn't impressive but none the less GSP is still the Welterweight champion. As I said in my preview I though Shields would be a tough guy to finish and was proven right but you would have to think an injury to St. Pierre's eye really effected his performance. Shields is the first fighter to take a round from GSP in 8 fights but still have to question the lack of takedown attempts.$$

Future matchups to make:
St. Pierre- Some how I think they will make a GSP vs Nick Diaz bout
Shields- Assuming Fitch/Penn II will still take place in the future, a matchup with Koscheck would make sense

Jose Aldo defeated Mark Hominick by Unanimous Decision (48-45,48-46,48-46)
My Prediction- Aldo by TKO 2nd Round
Aldo was the victor but it will be Hominick's performance that will be remembered. Having a herrendous hematoba above his right eye Hominick made a huge statement by winning the final round against one of the sports pound for pound best. It wasn't Aldo's best performance but perhaps it could be chalked up to ring rust. Great moment at the end when Jose joined in with Mark on his post fight pushups in the middle of the octagon. $$$

Future matchups to make:
Aldo- looks like Chad Mendes will be next in line for Jose
Hominick- He proved he is a contender, If Florian gets by Diego Nunes I think that would be a fantastic matchup

Lyoto Machida defeated Randy Couture by TKO 1:09 2nd Round
My Prediction- Machida by TKO 2nd Round
Somewhere Mr Miyagi is smiling. In what will go down as one of the best KO's of the year and perhaps in history Machida front kicks Couture into retirement. It was a spectacular return to the win column for Machida but an emotional end for Couture. The significance of this fight probably hasn't completely sunk in but it's one for the ages. $$$$

Future Match ups to make:
Machida- Yes it was a 47 year old Couture but this win puts him back on track perhaps the winner of Shogun vs Griffin II is in Machida's future.

Vladimir Matyushenko defeated Jason Brilz by KO :20 1st Round
My Prediction- Brilz by Decision
Not much to say here this fight was over before it started. Very impressive performance by the Janitor. $$

Future match ups to make:
Matyuskenko- Hard to say where he is at after such a quick fight but i'd like to see him against Alexander Gustafsson

Ben Henderson defeated Mark Bocek by Unanimous Decision (30-27,30-27,30-27)
My Prediction- Henderson by Decision
Well I did say Henderson had great sub defense but question where or not he could survive Bocek locking on a sub. He answered that question fairly well and punished Bocek in the stand after getting out of said submission attempts. Fight went pretty much as expected with Ben being able to use his athleticism and superior stand up. $$$

Future matchups to make:
Henderson- Ben stands his ground as a top 10 lightweight and should be matched up in a pretty important fight next, like a Jim Miller
Bocek-Still a top competitor,a match up with a guy coming off a win could be in the cards like a Gleison Tibau

Rory MacDonald defeated Nate Diaz by Unanimous Decision (30-26,30-27,30-26)
My Prediction- MacDonald by Decision
$$$

Jake Ellenberger defeated Sean Pierson by KO 2:22 1st Round
My Prediction- Ellenberger by Decision
$$

Claude Patrick defeated Daniel Roberts by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) My Prediction- Patrick by Decision
$3/4

Ivan Menjivar defeated Charlie Valencia by TKO 1:30 1st Round
My Prediction- Menjivar by Decision
$$1/2

Jason MacDonald defeats Ryan Jensen by Submission (triangle choke) 1:37 1st Round
My Prediction- MacDonald by Submission 2nd Round
$$1/2

John Makdessi defeated Kyle Watson by KO 1:27 3rd Round
My Prediction- Makdessi TKO 1st Round
$$$

Pablo Garza defeated Yves Jabouin by submission (triangle choke) 4:31 1st Round
My Prediction- Jabouin by TKO 1st Round
$$$
