Bellator 40 Preview

Busy weekend of MMA so I'll just give a quick preview/picks of tonights Bellator 40 event

Main Event

Ben Askren vs Nick Thompson- Askren the Bellator Welterweight champion takes on vet Thompson in a non title affair. Askren, undefeated hasn't gain many fans as of late with his "boring" wins but regardless he is undefeated and he doesn't have any secret game plans. He is going to take you down and grind you out, perhaps the always game Thompson but on a 3 fight losing streak will bring out a different fight in Askren but I doubt it

Prediction Askren Decision- Askren's wrestling is just too much for The Goat

Welterweight Tourny Semi Final

Jay Hieron vs Brent Weedman- The winner setting up a match in the finals against Rick Hawn, both guys are on impressive streaks Hieron winner of 8 straight and Weedman on a 10 fight roll. Hieron fresh off a submission victory over Anthony Lapsley and Weedman coming off of a highly contested decision win over tough Dan Hornbuckle. Hieron is the favorite in this one, but Weedman seems like he will bring the fight to anyone, anywhere it goes.

Prediction Hieron Decision- Going into the tourny Hieron was probably the favorite to win it all. Weedman gives him a tough fight but he pulls in out.

Lightweight Tourny Semi Final

Lloyd Woodard vs Michael Chandler- Both undefeated the winner will punch his ticket into the Lightweight final against Patricky Friere. Chandler is the favorite in this one, but something tells me it would of been a bigger margin if he wasn't fighting a guy with such a fantastic handle bar moustache and was nicknamed Cupcake.

Prediction Chandler TKO 2nd Round- Chandler uses his wrestling to get Woodard done and the ground and pound finish
