Bellator 39 Recap

I'll just give a quick rundown on the just finished Bellator 39

Eddie Alvarez vs Pat Curran
I thought Alvarez would have been able to finish Curran in this one but thats not taking away anything from him its a compliment for Curran. He didn't have Alvarez in danger really at any point during the fight but he wasn't going away and did show some good takedown defense. Alvarez on the other hand did show a lot of good movement with his striking and mixing it up to the body and head while throwing in takedown attempts. $$1/2

Future Matchups to make
Alvarez awaits the season 4 winning which I think I've mentioned a few times I hope is Patricky Pitbull Freire. As for Curran I think he has a lot of options and fights in his future maybe even an entry in a future Bellator featherweight tourny?

Lyman Good vs Rick Hawn
Hawn wins the split decision with scores of 29-28, 30-27?! and 28-29. Good won the 1st Hawn the 2nd...fine but all 3 for Hawn?! I had Good winning the 3rd and the fight 29-28, Hawn was going forward but I thought Good was landing the better strikes. But whatever it was a close enough fight to not be that outraged about it. $$

Future Matchups to make
Hawn gets the Heiron/Weedman winner

Patricky Freire vs Toby Imada
Fight starts out with Toby trying to move around and strike with Patricky but the Pitbull hit some good leg kicks and a head kick to set up the rest of the fight. Half way through the 1st Pitbull is hitting leg kicks with ease and following up with good combos until he flys in with what Toby seem to think was a takedown but was in fact a flying knee! It lands flush Toby stays standing but his is literally out on his feet Pitbull follows up with a few punches which weren't needed OUT COLD. Wow one of the best KO's of the year so far, Alvarez is a tough fight but I want this one to happen! $$$

Future Matchups to make
Pitbull gets the Chandler/Woodard winner

Ben Saunders vs Matt Lee
Lee shows a ton of heart he's most effective strike was a low blow a minute into the 2nd round at that point his face was already looking pretty bad from Killa Bee's muay thai striking. How he had it out of the 2nd round is very surprising and doctors had a good look at him going into the 3rd. It was all for not as Ben continued kicks, elbows and clinch work to start the 3rd and a minute in he lands a big elbow in the clinch that really opens up a previous cut. TKO for Ben Saunders. $$3/4

Future Matchups to make
Would have liked to seen Saunders in the Welterweight tourny but a fight with Dan Hornbuckle could make up for it
