Ryan Bader defeated Jason Brilz by TKO 1:17 1st Round
My Prediction: Bader by TKO 2nd Round
My Rating: $$
What Happened: The fighters elect to stand and trade punches and really would be in Bader's advantage. Bader clipped Brilz early with a nice right uppercut and after trading a few more strikes he lands a glancing right hand that has enough power in it to send Brilz to the mat and a call to stop the fight from the referee.
Michael McDonald defeated Alex Soto by TKO :56 1st Round
My Prediction: McDonald by Decision
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: Both fighters looked to engage early as Soto was very hyped up and was looking for kicks. McDonald though showed alot of patience and countered a leg kick of Soto's with a big right hand that floored Soto. Soto was able to recover and back against the cage but McDonald continued to attack and landed some right hands to get the impressive stoppage victory.
Chris Weidman defeated Tom Lawlor by Submission 2:07 1st Round
My Prediction: Weidman by Decision
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: After some feeling out in the first part of the fight Weidman went to the ground getting a takedown and started to look for a submission. Weidman locked in a D'Arce attempt and was able to get into side control with it and then eventually rolled Lawlor over with the choke sinked in very deep. It only took a few seconds for the referee to step in and save Lawlor who refused to tap but eventually went right out.
Gleison Tibau defeated Rafael Dos Anjos by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29)
My Prediction: Tibau by Decision
My Rating: $$
What Happened: The first was a fairly even round with Dos Anjos getting a takedown while Tibau was able to get it back to the feet and landed the biggest punch of the round. The 2nd saw similar action with Dos Anjos looking for takedowns and Tibau looking to land a big shot. In the last minute of the round Tibau did infact land that big shot as he had Dos Anjos up against the cage and was able to tee off on him with some big left hands mixed in with some rights but to Dos Anjos he was some how able to survive. Dos Anjos came back in the 3rd landing his own big strike as he connected with a nice left that clipped Tibau. Tibau though was eventually able to secure a takedown after trading strikes and rode out the round to get the close split decision victory.
Miguel Torres defeated Nick Pace by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
My Prediction: Torres by Decision
My Rating: $$
What Happened: As expect Torres was able to use his big reach advantage and initiated most of the stand up exchanges while landing most of the significant shots. In the 2nd Pace was able to get a nice double leg takedown but as we know Torres is very good off his back and although Pace was able to briefly get side control Torres was able to hip escape and get the fight back to its feet. From there Torres clinched Pace up against the cage and work some knees and punches as the round ended. By the 3rd Pace was down 2 rounds to none and was head hunting but Torres played it smart still using his range picking his shots while at times clinching Pace as he cruised to the decision win.
Seth Baczynski defeated Matt Brown by Submission :42 2nd Round
My Prediction: Baczynski by Submission 2nd Round
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: In the first round Baczynski only had a brief period to work the ground game as most of the round was battled in the clinch. The 2nd round opened with Brown elected to take the fight to the ground and Baczynski gladly wrapped up a guillotine choke on the way to the ground and although Brown battled for a while he ultimately was forced to tap.
Danny Castillo defeated Shamar Bailey by TKO 4:52 1st Round
My Prediction: Castillo by Decision
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: Going into the fight it could be argued that perhaps Bailey would have the advantage in wrestling and Castillo had the advantage in striking but it was Castillo dominating both in the win. For the first 4 1/2 minutes of the fight Castillo was able to completely control Bailey with big takedowns and positioning on the ground. With 30 seconds left Castillo started to open up some ground and pound and gained full mount, Bailey was able to recover position but Castillo punches kept coming and forced the referee to step in and stop the fight.
