My Prediction: Alvarez by Decision
My Rating: $$$$1/2
What Happened: Not very often that 2 fights contend for Fight Of The Year on the same night but thats exactly what happened when Eddie Alvarez took on Michael Chandler for the Bellator Lightweight title. Unfortunate to them though they didn't have the viewers the UFC main event had but still they put on an incredible bout that deserves to be in the same conversation at least for fight of the year.
1st Round
They don't waste any time as just seconds in they start throwing leather and it was Chandler who lands first and had Alvarez hurt and backing up against the cage. Alvarez went to a knee but was able to get right back up and landing a right hand of his own which allowed him to get off the cage. Chandler looked to keep pressing and he went for a takedown which he got briefly but Alvarez was able to get back up. The 2nd half of the round slowed somewhat but Chandler still pushed forward and looked for takedowns until the final seconds where he landed a big right hand that sent Alvarez to one knee. Chandler takes this round 10-9
2nd Round
They trade punches to start the 2nd until Chandler pushes Alvarez up against the cage and looks for a takedown which he gets. 2nd half of the round has mostly standup exchanges with Alvarez winning most of them. Close round to score but Alvarez got the nod 10-9
3rd Round
Alvarez built off the momentum and recovery he had in the 2nd round and continued it into the 3rd. He had Chandler backing up against the cage and landed a big kick that really seemed to turn the tide in his favor. Alvarez swarmed on him with body shots and to the head but Chandler was able to survive. Alvarez continued to attack unloading punches upstairs then digging to Chandlers body who is now bloodied up. 30 seconds left and Chandler is still hanging in there and slows the pace by wrapping up Alvarez's legs looking for a takedown. Pretty close to being finished so it could be argued that was a 10-8 round for Alvarez.
4th Round
4th round starts with both fighters bloody but still very active. They trading strikes till the halfway mark of the round. It was at that halfway point where Chandler turned the fight back in his favour with a big right hand that sent Alvarez stumbling back to the cage and on his back. Chandler followed up on top of him and gained side control and quickly to mount. Alvarez turned to his stomach trying to escape but Chandler was able to sneak in a rear naked choke that Alvarez quickly tapped to. Great performance by both fighters in one of the best fights in Bellator history as Michael Chandler is crowned the new Bellator Lightweight champion and jumps onto alot of peoples radars as far as rankings are concerned.
My Prediction: Lombard by TKO 1st Round
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: Prangley was able to survive the first round but not without a scare. Lombard landed a kick and followed up with some big punches that clearly hurt Prangley and had him in survival mode, Prangley did just that though and was able to get a takedown and stop the onslaught from Lombard. Prangley survived the 1st round but it really was just a matter of time before Lombard lands a big shot and it happened a minute in when Lombard landed a big left hand that stumbled Prangley. Lombard chases him down as Prangley looked for a takedown but Lombard stuffs it easily and lands some huge shots on a covered up Prangley.
Jessica Aguilar defeated Lisa Ellis by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
My Prediction: Aguilar by Submission 1st Round
My Rating: $$
What Happened: Mostly a stand up affair with Aguilar landing the bigger and frequent shots. Ellis was tough and hung in there and did bloody Aguilar up a bit but overall it was Aguilar who was the superior fighter.
Marlon Sandro defeated Rafael Dias by Submission 3:56 1st Round
My Prediction: Sandro by Decision
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: Dias got the edge early dropping Sandro with a left hand but Sandro was able to recover and get a takedown on Dias. From there Sandro worked in Dias's half guard landing some elbows while looking for the chance to improve his position. Dias was able to scramble against the cage and get the fight standing but Sandro still had him trapped as he locked in a standing arm triangle. The choke was in tight and almost seemed like Dias would tap standing but was hanging on, that is until Sandro slammed him to the mat with choke still intact and Dias was finally forced to tap.
