My Prediction: Henderson by Decision
My Rating: $$$$1/2
What Happened: Not every day does a matchup live up to it's hype and potential fans expect out of it, this fight however probably went above what people were expecting. This fight have a little of everything that we have seen in the past from each fighter, Guida getting in a brawl, Henderson some how defending submissions he seemingly is trapped in. Henderson though had his own submission attempt for Guida to defend as well as he was able to get Guida's back and worked for a rear naked choke before time ended in the 2nd round. The fight was ultimately won with Henderson's strength in the clinch and takedowns as well as his superior striking keeped Guida off balance pretty much through out the fight.
Dustin Poirier defeated Pablo Garza by Submission 1:32 2nd Round
My Prediction: Poirier by Decision
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: Aside from a brief moment in the 1st where Garza threatened with a knee bar Poirier pretty much controlled this fight with his superior striking and size advantage. In the 2nd Garza dove for a leg but Poirier ended up on top and locked in a D'arce choke. Poirier rolls him over which really puts the pressure on Garza and forces him to tap.
Ricardo Lamas defeated Cub Swanson by Submission 2:16 2nd Round
My Prediction: Swanson by Decision
My Rating: $$$What Happened: Swanson was able to win the first round with a very close guillotine choke attempt and overall controlling the ground battle. On the feet Lamas got creative throwing a capoiera kick which missed and Swanson fired right back with a kick and some punches of his own. In the 2nd the fighters traded strikes but it quickly went to the ground. In a scramble it was Lamas turn to lock in a submission as he transitioned into a great arm triangle which Swanson could not find a way out of and was forced to tap.
DaMarques Johnson defeated Clay Harvison by TKO 1:34 1st Round
My Prediction: Johnson by Decision
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: Both fighters elect to stand and it was Johnson who was the more accurate of the two. Faking a jab Johnson lands a solid uppercut that floors Harvison immediately, already celebrating Johnson follows with a a few strikes before the ref steps in.
Darren Uyenoyama defeated Norifumi Yamamoto by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)
My Prediction: Yamamoto by TKO 1st Round
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: Classic grappler vs striker fight with the grappler coming out on top. Yamamoto to his credit scored some of his own takedowns and trips early in the fight and hurt Uyenoyama with a left hand in the 2nd. Aside from that the fight was all Uyemoyama who nearly finished the fight in the closing seconds of the 1st round with a rear naked choke but Yamamoto was able to hold off tapping and survive. The 2nd round saw alot of the same and Uyenoyama threatened with submissions through out the fight but to Yamamoto's credit he was able to defend. The 3rd round saw the pace slow but Uyenoyama did enough to get the nod on the scorecards for the 3 round sweep.
Robert Peralta defeated Mackens Semerzier by TKO 1:54 3rd Round
My Prediction: Peralta by Decision
My Rating: $$
What Happened: Semerzier looked good in the first round winning it with some big strikes on the feet and on the ground. Peralta was able to even up the score cards in the 2nd flooring Mackens early in the roundl, Mackens was able to recover and continue to push forward but it was Peralta who was landing with more frequency and accuracy. The 3rd round opens with Peralta landing the better strikes but it was an accidental head butt that dazed Semezier and sent him to the mat, Peralta followed him down and landed some more ground and pound to get the stoppage victory (for know). This fight could definitely be changed to a no contest.
Alex Caceres defeated Cole Escovedo by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
My Prediction: Escovedo by Submission 1st Round
My Rating: $$
What Happened: Caceres put on the best performance of his career outstriking and even going for some close submissions en route to a decisive decision. Through the first 2 rounds Caceres put on a great striking display using kicks, elbows, spinning back fists while mixing in body shots. The 3rd round went to the ground and you would think in Escovedo's favour but it was Caceres who was able to lock in a triangle, Escovedo defended well but Caceres kept the pressure on transitioning to an arm bar and omoplata. The closing minute saw Escovedo get Caceres back and eventually lock in a triangle but ran out of time in the round and ultimately the fight.
Mike Pierce defeated Paul Bradley by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29)
My Prediction: Pierce by Decision
My Rating: $1/2
What Happened: In a close fight it was Pierce who landed the bigger punches and had more control in the clinch and wrestling.
Aaron Rosa defeated Matt Lucas by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-26, 28-28)
My Prediction: Rosa by TKO 2nd Round
My Rating: $1/2
What Happened: A fight lacking in much action and a point deduction for Lucas for spitting out his mouth guard numerous times. Rosa did enough at least in 2 judges eyes with his striking and clinch work to get the decision. Rosa to his credit looked much better as a Light Heavyweight.
