Bellator 55 Recap

Alexis Vila defeated Marcos Galvao by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 27-30)
My Prediction: Vila by TKO 1st Round
My Rating: $1/2
What Happened: The first round pretty much set the pace and eventually the outcome of the fight and it was very close to call but at times lacked in action but saw Vila perhaps land the more significant strikes.  Galvao was able to defend Vila's takedowns very well through out the fight and showed it in the 2nd and he was able to keep the fight standing as the fighters traded strikes.  The 3rd round saw Galvao as the aggressor as he pushed forward and Vila seemed to tire as Galvao attacked with legs kick and Vila had his hands low.

Future matchups to make: Another controversial loss for Galvao as he will now watch Vila move onto the finals and face Eduardo Dantas.

Eduardo Dantas defeated Ed West by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29)

My Prediction: Dantas by TKO 2nd Round
My Rating: $$
What Happened: In the first round Dantas threatened with his deadly striking as he hurt West with a right hand and followed up with some ground and pound.  West's experience came through from him though and he was able to recover and even counter with an arm bar attempt that looked very close.  The 2nd round was highlighted by another submission attempt but this time it was Dantas getting West's back and looking for the rear naked choke.  In the 3rd round the pace slowed as it stayed pretty much on the feet with neither fighting landing and substantial strikes.

Future matchups to make: Dantas will now face Alexis Vila in the Bantamweight tournament finals in what should be a pretty entertaining bout.

Travis Wiuff defeated Christian M'Pumbu by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
My Prediction: M'Pumbu by TKO 1st Round
My Rating: $$
What Happened: This was not the kind of history M'Pumbu wants to be associated with.  As mentioned in the preview this was the 13th non title fight for a Bellator Champion and M'Pumbu is the first to loss such a fight.  For the majority of all 3 rounds of the fight Wiuff was able to outwrestle and out position M'Pumbu and by doing so negating M'Pumbu's deadly striking.  M'Pumbu was able to land some dangerous strikes at times but Wiuff was able to whether the storm and get M'Pumbu on his back.  M'Pumbu did threaten with some submissions from his back but it was all for not.

Future matchups to make:  Wiuff definitely will see him self in next seasons Light Heavyweight tournament, and at least provides a back story if he is able to get through the tournament and get another shot at M'Pumbu.

Ricardo Tirloni defeated Steve Gable by Submission 3:54 2nd Round
My Prediction: Tirloni by Submission 2nd Round
My Rating: $$1/2
What Happened: Tirloni controlled the action from the start as he was able to stuff Gable's takedown attempts while ending up in top position in the process.  In the first round it was Tirloni attempting a D'arce choke which Gable was able to defend but in the 2nd Tirloni put the pressure on Gable getting full mount which forced Gable to turn and give up his back which allowed Tirloni to sink in the easy rear naked choke submission.

Future matchups to make: Tirloni would make a great entry in the Lightweight tournament set to take place in 2012.
