My Prediction: Evans by Decsion
My Rating: $$$$
What Happened: To Ortiz's credit he probably looked alot better than most people had expected and perhaps his years of claiming injuries have hampered him were in fact true. Ortiz was able to secure a takedown and even locked in a guillotine choke in the 2nd which seemed to be very very close to having Rashad tap. But it was the beginning of the end for Tito after Rashad escaped the near submission as he has able to secure side control, and delivered some ground and pound. It was a knee to the chest followed up by some more ground and pound that sealed the end of the night for Tito.
Future matchups to make: Rashad will surely keep his title shot chance intact and will face the winner of the upcoming Jon Jones vs Rampage Jackson bout. Like I said in my preview Tito keeps his job even with a lose after the favour he did for the UFC taking this fight on short notice. I think we will have to wait till the dust clears from other Light Heavyweight fights to get a clearer picture of who Tito could possibly face next.
My Prediction: Belfort by TKO 2nd Round
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: Belfort looked like his old self is what happened. After Akiyama looked to imitate Anderson Silva's front kick KO over Vitor it seemed to anger Vitor and he swarmed Akiyama hurting him up against the cage, Akiyama was briefly able to get back to his feet but Vitor sent him right back down forcing the ref to stop the fight.
Future matchups to make: With most of the top Middleweights already booked in fights, Vitor will most likely have to wait to get news on his next opponent. It definitely will be against a top contender though. For Akiyama thats 3 loses in a row now and perhaps a move to Welterweight is a way to save his job with the UFC.
My Prediction: Ebersole by Decision
My Rating: $$$
What Happened: Hallman was able to secure Ebersole's back within the first 30 seconds of the bout and worked for the rear naked choke. In what seemed like a quick end to the night for Ebersole he was able to escape the viacarious position turning into Hallman and escaping another choke attempt in the process. Ebersole then proceeded to upload some nasty elbows and ground and pound which proved to be too much for Hallman.
Future matchups to make: That's 2 wins in a row for Ebersole which is gaining quite a fanbase amoung hardcore fans. I'd like to see Ebersole face the winner of the Amir Sadollah vs Duane Ludwig bout.
My Prediction: Phillippou by Decision
My Rating: $$
What Happened: In a close fight it was Phillippou who the 2 of the judges figured did enough to get away with the split decision victory. The pace was pretty slow and it was a grueling bout with alot of clinch work, but it was Phillippou who delivered the most signicant moments of the fight where in the 2nd round he tagged Rivera with a right and had Rivera on his knees eating punches, but to Rivera's credit he escaped, got Phillippou up against the cage with a arm trapped and came back with his own strikes.
Future matchups to make: A bout with his original opponent Rafael Natal should probably be booked with both coming off wins.
Rory MacDonald defeated Mike Pyle by TKO 1st Round
My Prediction: MacDonald by Decision
My Rating: $$$1/2
What Happened: It was no secret that Pyle had the advantage when it came to the ground game but it was MacDonald that tested that claim and ended up the winner. While Pyle did get MacDonald down and where he wanted him it, MacDonald was able to scramble and while they were getting to their feet MacDonald slapped on a nasty choke that Pyle was able to spin out of. Pyle ended up on his back after the MacDonald submission attempt and MacDonald showed no fear jumping into Pyle's guard and unloading some vicious ground and pound that was too much for Pyle and the ref stepped in.
Future matchups to make: The label of "prospect" could very well be removed from MacDonald as he should enter the world of contender in the not so distant future, a matchup against Rick Story would be a great test for the surging Welterweight.
