This Week In MMA History (June 12-18)

UFC 115: Liddell vs Franklin took place June 12th, 2010 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Rich Franklin stepped in for the injured Tito Ortiz in what was suppose to be the Season 12 of TUF coaches facing off.  Franklin knocked out Liddell 4:55 into the 1st round which ultimately was Liddell's last fight.  Also featured on the card was the highly entertaining bout between Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald in which Condit won  by TKO with just 7 seconds remaining.  Also winning on the event were Mirko Cro Cop, Ben Rothwell, and Martin Kampmann.

UFC 99: The Comeback took place June 13th, 2009 at Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.  The first event held in Germany as well as in mainland Europe it was headlined by a main event featuring Rich Franklin taking on Wanderlei Silva in a 195 pound catchweight bout.  In what won Fight Of The Night Franklin defeated Silva by unanimous decision.  In the co-main event future UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez defeated Cheick Kongo by unanimous decision.  Also victorious at the event were Mirko Cro Cop, Mike Swick, Spencer Fisher and Dan Hardy.  Featured on the preliminary card was a bloody bout between Stefan Struve and Denis Stojnac which Struve won by rear naked choke.

Strikeforce: Los Angeles took place June 16th 2010 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.  Coincided with the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this event featured a main event of Babalu Sobral taking on Robbie Lawler in a 195 pound catchweight bout.  It was announced that the winner of the main event would get a title shot in their respective regular weight class (Sobral at 205, Lawler at 185).  Sobral would end up winning the bout by unanimous decision.  Also victorious at the event were Evangelista Santos, Tim Kennedy and K.J. Noons.

Claude Patrick born on June 14th, 1980 in Toronto, Ontario
"The Prince" is currently riding an impressive 13 fight winning streak with the last 3 in the UFC and is 15-1 overall.  In 2008 Patrick was a victim of a taser attack after attending a Freedom Fight event in Quebec he was put in a medically induced coma for 2 days and still to this day doesn't know who attacked him.  Patrick's notable wins inlcude Daniel Roberts and James Wilks.

Joe Stevenson born on June 15th,1982 in Torrance, California
The Utimate Fighter Season 2 winner at Welterweight on June 26th 2011 will make his debut as a featherweight, his 3rd weight class for the UFC.  The one time Lightweight title contender has a career record of 31-13 and has won Fight Of The Night in a UFC event 3 times.  Notable wins for Joe include Nate Diaz, Melvin Guillard, and Yves Edwards.

Chris Weidman born June 17th, 1984 in Baldwin New York
One of the best top Middleweight prospects in the world Weidman sports a 6-0 record with his most recent victory happening last week at UFC 131 where he won Submission Of The Night Honors.  The Serra-Longo Fight Team trained fighter competed in the 2009 ADCC tournament with just one year of formal JiuJitsu training to his credit.  Notable wins in Weidman's early career include Jesse Bongfeldt and Alessio Sakara.
