This Week In MMA History (April 10-17)

April 16th 2005-UFC 52: Couture vs Liddell II took place. At the time it was the highest grossing gate for an UFC event. Chuck's first UFC title win. It was the first "coach fight" from The Ultimate Fighter series with Liddell and Couture coaching Season 1. Was also the first UFC PPV to use fighters names in the title. Also featured the classic welterweight title battle between champ Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg with Hughes winning via rear naked choke.

April 14th 2000- UFC 25: Ultimate Japan took place. After the retirement of Frank Shamrock Tito Ortiz defeated Wanderlei Sliva for the UFC Light Heavyweight title by unanimous decision.

April 12th 2010- UFC 112: Invincible took place. UFC's first event in Abu Dhabi and in an outdoor arena. Anderson Silva took on Demian Maia for Silva's Middleweight title. Silva was criticized for his disrespectful behavior during the fight, Dana White refused to give Silva the belt leaving before it ended and was quoted ""I don't think I've been more embarrassed in the ten years of being in this business". Frankie Edgar also upset BJ Penn for the Lightweight title in an unanimous decision victory.
